So Belinda’s brother also had his 15 minutes of fame in politics. Ignacio Peregrín, the younger brother, ran as a deputy candidate a few years ago in CDMX with Partido Verde. The thing is, it didn’t go well for him—he lost to another candidate with a little more than 51,000 votes. But what’s interesting is what happened afterward.

Before getting into politics, Peregrín worked at the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores coordinating international cooperation programs. Then an investigation came out showing that while he held that position, he was also a partner in a cleaning company that had obtained contracts with the government. A classic conflict of interest, really. In addition, in his asset declaration, he reported a salary of a little more than 13,000 pesos per month.

The strangest part was that his CV said he had a degree in Law, but when they looked up his professional license in the official registry... nothing. They found that he was studying that degree in 2019 at a university in Veracruz. After losing the elections, Ignacio Peregrín vanished from the spotlight. A meeting with the mayor of Cuauhtémoc at a restaurant in Roma was the last thing the press reported about him. Since then, total silence.
