I think many people are confused when choosing a single-function microwave oven. Because it’s a simple design that focuses only on heating functions, it can actually be hard to know what to look for.
When comparing various manufacturers’ single-function microwave ovens, I found that the performance differences are surprisingly large. From small models suitable for singles to large capacities for families, the way to choose varies greatly depending on the用途.
The top pick is Sharp’s RE-TD184. Its flat interior makes it easy to clean, and with 1000W high power and an absolute humidity sensor, the entire bento heats evenly. The operation is intuitive, so it’s easy to use. However, with an 18L interior, it’s on the small side, making it suitable for singles or small households.
For family use, Toshiba’s ER-S10A is a good candidate. With a large 23L capacity, the combination of 1000W inverter and infrared sensor is excellent. It performs well in both manual and automatic heating. Its ability to be installed flush against walls on the sides and back also saves space.
If you prioritize cost performance, Toshiba’s ER-NS170A is a good choice. Despite being inexpensive at around 14,000 yen, its manual heating performance is sufficient. It’s a compact 17L size with a simple dial operation. Although it doesn’t have an automatic mode, it’s fine for daily heating needs.
Panasonic’s NE-FL222 excels in automatic mode performance. Its steam sensor automatically detects the food, so you don’t need to set the time each time. The one-touch door opening feature is also quite convenient.
Another surprisingly well-reviewed model is from Twinbird and Comfee’. Since they are turntable types, cleaning the interior is a bit of a hassle, but they are very affordable, under 10k yen. Their basic heating performance is sufficient. They are ideal for those on a tight budget.
When choosing a single-function microwave, first decide how many family members you have and where to place it, then choose between flat interior or turntable. Next, narrowing down by whether it has sensor functions will almost finalize your choice. Since it’s used daily, be sure to check the heating performance and ease of operation.
