Wow, so Checo Pérez is finally here with Cadillac and... well, the numbers don't look spectacular in these tests. He finished tenth on Friday, almost 9 seconds behind Leclerc. But what's interesting is what he said afterward: the guy is calm. He says the car feels balanced and that they've improved quite a bit each day. It makes sense, it's his first year with a completely new team in F1.
What caught my attention the most is that Pérez is aware that this will be a marathon, not a sprint. He knew the start would be difficult, and now it's about seeing how quickly they can develop. Along with Bottas, they are helping to identify where to improve. Cadillac is putting in a lot of miles to lay the groundwork before Australia.
The real challenge is brutal: they need to develop faster than McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari. Checo acknowledges that as a new team, they'll need time to get all departments functioning properly. But if things go well, they could be closer than expected in a couple of months. We'll see how the season kicks off.
