I recently came across the story of Leonor and Mauro, and honestly, it makes you think. That kind of love you don't see much of anymore. Almost 50 years together, since they met as teenagers on a movie outing with friends. He was smitten the moment he saw her, so much so that he didn't even notice what movie they were watching.

Mauro was a journalist, one of those tireless workers who was always glued to the microphone. But here’s the interesting part: Leonor, who was a psychologist, never criticized his hectic pace. On the contrary, she accompanied him all the time, was his compass in difficult decisions. When he doubted, she was there with the perspective he lacked.

They had two children who followed in their footsteps: Ivana specialized in child psychology, and Jonatan went into journalism and political science. That said, it was Leonor who supported the family while Mauro was in the media. She managed the house, helped the kids with their studies, made sure everything ran smoothly.

What I liked most was seeing them as older, when the children were grown. Mauro and Leonor started traveling, enjoying life. He even invited her onto his TV shows to talk about psychological topics. She with her particular style, he with his charisma. Both proud of each other, that was evident on screen.

In recent years, Leonor kept urging him to take care of his health, to slow down. But you know how workaholics are. Mauro passed away at 73 after complications from Covid, and the hardest part for Leonor was not being able to be with him in those final moments because she was isolated as a close contact. Only their children could be with him at the end.

More than 50 years of that story that started with a glance at the movies. Leonor was left alone after a lifetime together. It’s one of those stories that makes you appreciate what you have by your side, you know? No dramas, no infidelities, no those things that ruin everything. Just two people who chose each other and stayed chosen until the end.
