Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details, especially with the December payments coming up. Let me break down what actually works because the process is different depending on your grant type.
If you're on permanent grants like old age or disability, you can't just do this online—you have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your ID (original and copy), and get proof of your new bank account, like a bank statement from the last three months or a letter from your bank. They'll give you a form to fill out, and the whole verification thing takes up to 21 working days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to kick in the next payment cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month.
Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's actually easier because it's all online. Go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they'll send you an SMS link. Click it, update your bank details (has to be in your name only, no joint accounts), and submit. Takes a few days to a couple weeks to verify.
For your cellphone number, same deal—if it's SRD, use their contact details page and they'll send you an OTP to confirm. For permanent grants, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. And seriously, only use official SASSA links because there are fake websites out there trying to scam people. Has anyone else had issues getting their details updated before the deadline?
