Freezing ingredients really takes a lot of time to defrost, doesn't it? So I tried out some recommended defrosting plates. Honestly, they vary quite a bit depending on the product.
The fastest was Daizo Manufacturing's "Defrost Scissors Fine." It’s a two-plate clamp type, and 10 grams of ice melted in about 2 minutes and 12 seconds. Seriously fast. However, it's small in size, so it's not suitable for large ingredients. Best for small quantities.
Fujita Metal's "Defrost Eco-chan" is thicker and has good heat conductivity. Ice melts in 3 minutes and 22 seconds, and it can handle larger ingredients like chicken thighs. A downside is that it tends to drip, but it's easy to wash.
Cesa Beams' product comes in a variety of sizes. You can choose from S, M, or L, so it suits everything from single-person households to families. Buying two and using them to clamp can make defrosting even faster.
Nitori's "Defrost Plate with Sharpener Cutting Board" costs around 1,500 yen and functions as four tools in one. It can be used not only as a defrost plate but also for other purposes, making it cost-effective compared to standalone products. Good for those who want to try it out.
3COINS' "KITINTO Defrost Plate" is affordable at around 1,000 yen. It's round and cute, and defrosting takes about 5 minutes and 53 seconds, which is pretty decent. It's lightweight, making it easy to carry around.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on what you prioritize. If speed is key, go for Scissors Fine; if size matters, Cesa Beams; if cost performance is important, Nitori or 3COINS. When choosing a recommended defrosting plate, I think the best approach is to match it to your own usage.
