Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details, especially when it comes to changing banking information. The process is actually pretty different depending on which grant you're on, so worth clarifying.

If you're getting a permanent grant like the old age or disability one, you basically have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. Can't do it online no matter what. You'll need to fill out a Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID and proof of your new bank account (a recent bank statement or letter from the bank works). Important thing though - the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything. They send it to the bank for verification after, which takes up to 21 working days. If you're trying to change it for next month's payment, you need to get it done before the 15th.

Now if you're on the SRD grant (that R350 relief money), it's way easier because you can actually do it all online through their portal. You just need your ID number, they'll send you a link via SMS to verify, then you enter your new bank details. Same rule applies though - has to be your account only. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to confirm the new details.

For changing your phone number, permanent grant holders should call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. SRD users can update it online through the contact details page using their ID and Application ID, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. Honestly the online option for SRD is pretty straightforward if the system's working.

One heads up - there are fake SASSA websites out there trying to scam people, so always make sure you're on the official portal. And if you hit any issues with the online process, just call or visit an office. Not worth messing around with unofficial sites.
