Just realized I needed to update my SASSA banking details and found out there's actually a pretty straightforward process depending on which grant you're getting. If you're on the SRD grant, you can do it all online through their portal which is honestly the easiest way. You just enter your ID number, they send you a verification link via SMS, then you update your bank account info. Takes a few days to process after that.

But here's the thing – if you're getting a permanent grant like disability or old age, you actually have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. They'll have you fill out a Payment Method Change Form and you need to bring your ID and a recent bank statement (not older than 3 months) proving the account is in your name. They won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that. The whole verification can take up to 21 working days, so if you want the change to show up next month, you gotta submit before the 15th.

Also worth knowing – if you're changing your cellphone number, that's a separate process. For SRD you can do it online on their contact details page with an OTP verification, but for permanent grants you'll probably need to call 0800 60 10 11 or visit the office. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website though, apparently there's a bunch of fake sites out there trying to scam people. Anyone else been through this recently?
