Odaily Planet Daily reports that according to Al Jazeera, Greek maritime risk management company MARISKS warns that unidentified individuals are impersonating Iranian authorities by sending messages to some shipping companies, demanding payment in cryptocurrency for transit fees in exchange for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The company states, “These specific messages are scams; these emails are not sent by Iranian authorities.” MARISKS says that, according to their understanding, at least one vessel attempting to exit the strait and being attacked by gunfire on Saturday was a victim of this scam. Due to Iran re-blocking the Strait of Hormuz in response to U.S. sanctions on its ports, hundreds of ships and about 20,000 sailors are stranded in the Gulf region, unable to pass. (Jin10)
