199/299 is the psychological price point, sounding neither expensive nor cheap.

This is called price anchoring, first making you accept 199, then conveniently upgrading to 299 with an essential oil upgrade.

I think it's more of an industry-standard price; everyone marks it this way to avoid you comparing and then going to another provider.

You think you're missing a dollar, but actually it's a whole set of marketing scripts and conversion rates.

Rent and wages are both increasing, but openly raising them too much is not advisable, so they are initially stabilized at 199/299.

The key point is: 199 for traffic attraction, then various add-ons in the store, and finally the bill almost always exceeds 300+.

If 198/288 might also be acceptable, but 199/299 has already been taught as the "reasonable range."

Same feeling, it seems like the nationwide uniform price; no matter where you go, it's these two numbers.

I get persuaded every time by the 299 “upgrade project.” I clearly just wanted to press/click a button in the beginning.

Setting it at 199 is to avoid making you think it's too expensive; setting it at 200 is too straightforward, but 199 looks more "cost-effective."
