I just discovered something pretty interesting in the Solana ecosystem, which is Backpack. If you don't know what Backpack is, it's not your everyday backpack; it's a cryptocurrency wallet with big ambitions.

Backpack started as a blockchain wallet on Solana, allowing users to store, send, and receive tokens as well as NFTs. But the cool part is that it doesn't stop there. What Backpack is now has become a more comprehensive platform, with features like minting NFTs directly, messaging friends, and even connecting with DeFi applications.

What caught my attention the most is xNFT, or Executable NFT. This is a new token standard on Solana that allows NFTs not just to be assets but also to perform actions. For example, you can stake DeGods NFTs directly within the wallet without going through any third parties.

Then in February 2024, Backpack launched a centralized exchange called Backpack Exchange. This platform is quite hot, reaching $1 billion in 24-hour trading volume within the first 5 days. Currently, it operates in the Middle East, Asia, and some US states, recording over $6.5 billion in volume just in February.

What exactly is Backpack? It’s like an operating system for decentralized applications. You have your own App Store with ready-to-use dApps, which you can download and use immediately without switching between multiple platforms. Swap tokens, interact with Jupiter, Marginfi, Kamino Finance—all can be done in one place.

The team behind Backpack includes the creators of the Mad Lads collection, Armani Ferrante and Tristan Yver. They have raised $37 million from major funds like Jump Crypto, Multicoin Capital, Placeholder, Amber Group, and Wintermute. So this isn’t a small project.

If you want to try it out, just visit the homepage, download the browser extension, create a new wallet, save your seed phrase, select the network (Solana or Ethereum), set a password, and you're done. Then you can start using the xNFT Library to experience various applications.

The best part is Backpack has expanded to Ethereum, with plans to support other blockchains as well. Currently, it doesn’t have its own token, but who knows, there might be an airdrop in the future.

In summary, what makes Backpack noteworthy? It’s a significant step forward in the cryptocurrency wallet space, combining storage, trading, and dApp interaction all in one platform. If you're active on Solana, this is definitely worth trying.
