Just saw BNB Chain dropped a heads up for node operators - there's a mandatory update coming before the Osaka/Mendel hard fork hits mainnet on April 28. Basically, if you're running a node, you need to get BSC v1.7.2 installed and clean up your old config settings, or your node's gonna lose sync during the upgrade. The deadline is April 28 at 2:30 a.m. UTC, so not a ton of time.

The interesting part is they're being pretty strict about this - it's not optional if you want to stay connected to the network. They're emphasizing that proper binary replacement and removing outdated settings are critical. Apparently the testnet phase already went smooth back in March, so they're confident about the mainnet rollout now.

As for what's actually changing, the Mendel upgrade adds this new gas cap per transaction at 16,777,216 gas through BEP-652. That's a protocol-level change, so all nodes will enforce it the same way instead of the old soft cap where operators could interpret it differently. They're also pulling in some Ethereum updates and adding two BNB Chain-specific improvements to speed up finality and reduce latency.

So if you're an operator, check your setup now. The hard fork is basically a week away and they want everything ready before it goes live.
