Recently, I was reflecting on something that happened in the crypto community and that remains relevant: when Bitcoin hit 100K, people on social media kept writing "BTC at 100K," and many wondered what that letter really meant.

The truth is, the answer is simple but has an interesting history behind it. The K represents 1k units, period. It comes from ancient Greek, from the word khilioi meaning thousand. At some point, merchants and financiers adopted this notation because it is clear and saves space. So 1K is 1,000, 10K is 10k, and 100K is 100k dollars. Quite straightforward.

On social media, this way of writing became almost standard. When you have a character limit, saying "100K" instead of "one hundred thousand dollars" is not only more efficient but also has a greater visual impact. People understand it instantly.

But here’s the interesting part: Bitcoin reaching that number was not just another technical data point. It was an emotional moment for the community. That round figure meant something profound, especially for those who have been in this from the beginning. On Twitter, Reddit, Discord, seeing Bitcoin reach 100K was not just reading a number; it was celebrating a milestone that transcends the price itself.

Now, if you want to understand what 100K means in the context of Bitcoin, you have to see it as a cultural marker. It represents a collective achievement, a turning point. For market veterans and newcomers alike, that number resonated differently, but everyone felt it.

Since then, the conversation has evolved. Some analysts already speculated that Bitcoin could reach 140K in 2025. Others talked about the famous 1M, the million dollars. That figure probably won’t arrive so soon, but the point is that once Bitcoin broke the 100K barrier, expectations changed forever.

What’s clear is this: that Bitcoin reached 100K not only raised the price but also raised our expectations as a community. It marked the end of one stage and the beginning of another. And although we are now seeing fluctuations in the price, that milestone remains a reference for where the market is heading in the long term.
