It just came out in the news that Yuga Labs and those artists finally reached an agreement after two years of fighting over the RR/BAYC issue. Basically, Ripps and Cahen released an NFT collection using Bored Ape images, and it all turned into a legal mess. At first, a judge awarded Yuga almost $9 million, but then the appeals court said, “not so fast,” and sent a jury to determine whether there was actually deception.

In the end, they avoided the trial and reached a settlement. Now Ripps and Cahen can’t use Yuga’s brand, so basically the discussion is over. It’s interesting how these NFT cases always end up being more complicated than they seem at first glance, right? The question of whether it was parody or a copy was never fully clear in the news, but at least there’s no more lawsuit.
