Just saw PowerBank announced a 5 MW solar and battery energy storage system project in upstate New York. Pretty interesting timing given how much the renewable energy space is heating up. They're calling it the NY-Conklin Hill Rd project and it's set up as hybrid community solar, which means local residents can actually subscribe and save on their electric bills. The battery energy storage system component is key here - stores the excess renewable energy for when it's not sunny, which is becoming critical infrastructure as more data centers demand reliable power.

What caught my attention: they've got over 100 MW of completed projects already and a pipeline exceeding 1 GW. That's serious scale. The project is eligible for incentives through New York's NYSERDA programs, and they're still working through interconnection approvals and permitting. One thing to watch - they mentioned selling off some other projects (Gainesville and Highway 28) back to themselves after the buyer couldn't get permits. So execution risk is real in this space.

The economics make sense though. Battery costs have dropped 90% over 15 years, which is wild. New York is pushing hard to hit 10 GW of distributed solar and 6 GW of energy storage by 2030, so this battery energy storage system project fits right into the state's climate goals. Already hit their 6 GW solar target last fall. Definitely something to keep an eye on if you're following renewable infrastructure plays.
