Wu Shuo learned that the U.S. Department of Justice disclosed that British citizen Tyler Robert Buchanan has pleaded guilty to participating in SMS phishing attacks from September 2021 to April 2023, infiltrating the systems of at least a dozen companies and stealing information. He then bypassed two-factor authentication through methods such as SIM card hijacking to gain control of victims' crypto accounts and wallets, stealing at least $8 million in crypto assets from multiple individual victims in the United States. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, with a maximum federal prison sentence of 22 years. Several co-defendants in the case are still awaiting trial.
