Australia considers launching natural gas safety mechanisms to ensure supply

The Australian government said on the 2nd that, in view of the fighting in the Middle East disrupting global energy supplies, regulators warned that there could be supply shortages in the third quarter of this year. Australia will decide before mid-May whether to activate the Australian Domestic Natural Gas Security Mechanism. The Australian Domestic Natural Gas Security Mechanism took effect in 2017. Under this mechanism, the government is authorized to impose export controls on relevant companies when natural gas supply in the domestic market is insufficient. (CCTV News)
