Chinese side responds to Rubio's remarks on China

On April 3, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference.

A foreign media reporter asked whether China has carried out “harassment and detention” of Panamanian ships after the cancellation of a contract between Panama and a Hong Kong company, as U.S. Secretary of State Rubio accused, and what the Foreign Ministry’s comment is.

Mao Ning said that the U.S. side’s remarks are completely baseless and distort facts. The U.S. has kept going on and on with unfounded accusations, which can only expose its plot to monopolize the canal.

“Precisely who is openly undermining the neutrality of the Panama Canal through unilateral bullying and coercion, and damaging the stability of the global supply chain? Justice will be seen by all. China’s position on the relevant port issues in Panama is clear. We will firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests,” Mao Ning said.
