Recently, while doing API testing, I found that registering overseas accounts often gets stuck at SMS verification. Buying new SIM cards isn't practical, and I only later learned about SMS message platforms. Basically, it's renting virtual numbers to receive verification codes, avoiding the risk of exposing your real phone number.
I've personally encountered many pitfalls—some platforms simply don't receive messages at all, others have delays of half a day. Eventually, I found a few that are fairly reliable. SMS-Activate is the most user-friendly; verification codes arrive within about 10 seconds, and it covers many countries, making it especially suitable for cross-border testing. 5SIM is also good; its interface is clean, the API documentation is clear, and both Google and Twitter can be verified normally. If you're only using it domestically, Xiaoniao SMS is the fastest, with responses in 5 to 15 seconds, and it offers good value.
The most important thing to note when using SMS platforms is that shared numbers are prone to risk control measures. It's recommended to prepare several backup numbers at once so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Also, don't use them as your primary long-term number; privacy and security can't be fully guaranteed. If you're just doing simple API testing, any platform supporting API access is enough. But if you need stable registration on a specific overseas site, it's best to have multiple numbers on hand. Some platforms even support one-click number switching, which is very practical and helps avoid waste.
Have you used any SMS verification platforms? How was your experience?
