Recently, because I needed to test some overseas applications, I tried several SMS verification platforms and ran into quite a few issues. To be honest, some platforms couldn't receive texts, some had delays of half a day, and in the end, I found a few that worked pretty well. I'll share my experience today.
SMS verification platforms are basically services that rent virtual numbers to receive SMS verification messages. They're much more cost-effective than buying new SIM cards. I've tested SMS-Activate and 5SIM; these two offer the best overall experience, with verification codes arriving within about 10 seconds, and they cover most countries. If you're only testing within China, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao SMS respond even faster, with US number segments receiving replies in about 10-30 seconds.
The most annoying thing is that some numbers are shared, which makes them more prone to being flagged or restricted. My advice is to prepare several backup numbers and switch immediately if you don't receive the verification SMS—don't get stuck there. Also, it's best to choose reputable platforms; don’t just go for the cheapest options, or you'll really waste money.
A small tip: if the platform supports API integration, it makes batch testing much easier. Some platforms also have a 'one-click number switch' feature, which is really useful for quickly avoiding blocked number segments. Overall, using SMS verification platforms for temporary verification is fine, but don’t expect them to be your main long-term numbers—they can't guarantee privacy and security. Have you used any? Do you have more reliable platform recommendations?
