Haha, just saw who the actual richest athlete in the world is – and it's not really surprising. Michael Jordan leads the list with $3.6 billion, but what's interesting is that there are some names you wouldn't expect right away.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi are both billionaires, but significantly lower down than Jordan. Ronaldo sits at $1.2 billion in 5th place, while Messi with $850 million is a bit behind. LeBron, Magic Johnson, The Rock, and Tiger Woods all have $800 million – crazy how diversified these fortunes are, not just from sports.
What surprises me: people like Vince McMahon and Ion Tiriac have $3.2 billion and $2.4 billion respectively, even ahead of many well-known athletes. That shows that the biggest fortunes often don't come from the biggest names, but from those who really got involved in business. Federer, Beckham, Hamilton – all legends, but with $450-750 million, well below Jordan.
Of course, the list is just an estimate and rounded, some athletes are no longer alive. But it's interesting to see who is truly the richest athlete and how different the paths to get there are.
