Just realized a bunch of people don't know how to change your name on a credit card and it's actually more annoying than you'd think. Like, if you got married or divorced, or whatever reason you need a name change, you can't just call the issuer and have them flip a switch. First you gotta update your driver's license and social security card—yeah, the DMV trip. Don't waste money on those sketchy services that claim they'll speed it up, they basically just take your money and you still end up doing the same paperwork yourself. Make sure everything's correct before you leave because redoing it is a nightmare.
Once you've got your new documents sorted, hit up your credit card company. Here's the thing—there's no standard process, so it varies by issuer. Some let you do it online or over the phone, others want you in person. They'll ask for proof of identity, probably digital scans first, but be ready to show up in person if they need it. After verification they'll send you a new card, takes a few days usually.
Oh and don't forget to update everywhere else—airline rewards, Netflix, Amazon, hotel apps, whatever's linked to that card. Changing your name doesn't mess with your credit score btw, everything stays the same, just the name updates. The whole thing takes like an hour or two if you're organized about it, maybe longer if you've got multiple cards to update. Just be patient and have your docs ready and it's honestly pretty straightforward.
