Been looking at some interesting plays in the penny stock space that could actually have serious upside before we hit 2027. Found three stocks under $5 that are worth paying attention to if you're into value investing.
First up is GoPro. Their Hero 12 Black camera really moved the needle on revenue, and what caught my eye is how they're balancing their product lineup. Entry-level cameras are pulling in about 19% of their camera revenue, which shows they're not just chasing the premium segment. That's smart portfolio management. Q3 2023 saw retail channel revenue jump 12% year-over-year, which means they're actually getting real traction in brick-and-mortar. When a company like this starts gaining shelf space and in-store presence, it usually signals something bigger brewing.
Then there's Blink. They're the only fully integrated US-based EV charging infrastructure play, and that's a legitimate moat. They design, manufacture and manage their own equipment, which cuts out a lot of middleman nonsense. Their 2023 network upgrades reduced maintenance costs significantly. Revenue target got bumped to 128-133 million range, and they're targeting 30%+ gross margins with expansion into 2024. Here's the thing though - the EV charger market needs nearly 490 million chargers globally by 2040. That's over 30x current capacity. Stocks under $5 don't get much better positioned than this for a structural tailwind.
Last one is Nordic American Tankers. Booked 73% of Q4 2023 spot voyage days at 43,160 per day TCE rates. The scarcity of their tanker types gives them pricing power, which flows straight to shareholders through dividends. Their balance sheet is clean too - net debt around 170.8 million or about 9 million per ship. They're actually targeting being debt-free, which is rare discipline in shipping. With demand clearly there based on booking percentages, this could see serious appreciation as we approach 2027.
What ties these together is they're all solving real problems in growing markets. Not hype plays. If you're looking at stocks that could actually explode in value over the next year, these sub-five-dollar plays have actual fundamentals backing them. Worth digging deeper on all three.
