Just saw that Lisa McGeough got the top job at HSBC US—basically running their entire American operations now. Pretty interesting move considering she only joined HSBC back in 2021, but she's got like 35+ years in banking so it's not exactly a wild pick.
What caught my attention is the structure they set up. McGeough reports to Michael Roberts, who's now heading up the whole Corporate and Institutional Banking division across the US, Americas, and Europe. So she's leading the US charge while Roberts oversees the bigger picture from London.
Before HSBC, Lisa McGeough was at Wells Fargo as an EVP handling international business, so she knows the cross-border banking game pretty well. Her mandate is basically to grow HSBC's US footprint and expand their newly integrated wholesale business in North America. Roberts' comment about her being a 'super-connector between the US and the rest of the world' kind of sums up what they're betting on with her—leveraging her international experience to push HSBC's global strategy forward in their most critical market.
Guess we'll see how Lisa McGeough navigates this. US banking is competitive as hell, but if anyone's got the network and experience for it, she does. The fact that HSBC is making this a priority move tells you they're serious about their American operations.
