Just looked into private school costs in America and honestly, the tuition at some of these elite prep schools is wild. We're talking $50k-$60k+ per year just for high school. Like, Phillips Academy Andover in Massachusetts charges $53,950 annually, and Milton School in Massachusetts hits $63,950. That's basically a full year at many state universities. The data I found is from 2023, but these most expensive schools haven't gotten cheaper since then. Places like Groton in Massachusetts, Middlesex in Concord, and The Peddie School in New Jersey are all in that $58k-$59k range. Apparently Connecticut has a bunch of these elite institutions too - Loomis Chaffee, The Taft School, Kent School. The average private high school tuition is way lower at around $16k, so these most expensive schools are definitely in a different league. Makes you wonder what the actual difference is in outcomes, or if wealthy families are just paying for the prestige and network.
