Mars Finance reports that on April 20th, as the Trump administration pushes for a military restructuring, internal power struggles within the U.S. Pentagon continue to escalate. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll have had multiple public conflicts over personnel appointments and boundaries of authority.
It is reported that Dan Driscoll publicly supported the dismissed Army Chief of Staff Randy George during a congressional hearing, which is seen as a direct confrontation with Pete Hegseth. Previously, Pete Hegseth quickly dismissed Randy George via phone during his leave, causing shock within the military.
The core of the conflict stems from a series of personnel appointment disputes. Insiders say Pete Hegseth once requested to remove certain officers from the promotion list, which was rejected by Dan Driscoll, leading to a rapid deterioration in their relationship. Since then, the internal power struggle over high-level officer appointments and authority division at the Pentagon has continued to intensify.
Additionally, the Trump administration previously bypassed the Department of Defense to directly involve Dan Driscoll in external affairs coordination, which is also seen as a significant factor exacerbating the conflict. Currently, this power struggle has affected the appointment of several senior generals and has raised concerns about the stability of the U.S. military command system.
