Just realized there are way more ways to get a free or cheap laptop for college than I thought. Like, I always assumed you just had to drop serious cash, but apparently a bunch of schools literally hand them out to incoming students. Moravian gives MacBook Pros, Chatham gives MacBook Airs with AppleCare included, Full Sail loads theirs with professional software. Pretty wild.

But here's the thing—if your school doesn't do that, there are nonprofits picking up the slack. The On It Foundation and Computers with Causes have been giving away free computers for years, no strings attached basically. You just apply online and wait a bit. There's also the Dell Scholars Program if you're still in high school, which gives you a $20k scholarship plus a free laptop (minimum 2.4 GPA though).

For actual student discounts for laptops, Dell, Microsoft, Apple and Samsung all have education pricing. Like, Dell's running up to $200 off right now, Apple gives you up to $100 off plus gift cards, and Microsoft throws in free Office 365. If you're looking for refurbished options that won't break the bank, places like PCs for People start at $145, and Notebooks for Students goes even lower around $200 with a free four-year warranty included.

Honestly the refurbished route seems underrated. You're getting solid devices at half the price, and most come with warranties. Definitely worth checking what your college offers first though before spending anything.
