okay so summer's basically here and i've been looking at beach trips that won't completely drain my bank account. turns out there are actually some solid most affordable beach towns on the east coast that people sleep on way too much. like, you can actually have a legit beach vacation without spending thousands.
virginia beach is wild because there's just so much to do - three miles of boardwalk, hiking trails, state parks, and a bunch of free museums. maryland's ocean city is obviously the dmv favorite for a reason, ten-mile boardwalk situation, cheap games and rides everywhere. and if you're into that misty of chincoteague vibe, assateague island is like 25 bucks for a week pass to see actual wild ponies. kind of insane honestly.
wildwood in jersey is different because the beaches don't even require beach tags which already saves you money. the boardwalk's got carnival stuff and live music and everything's pretty affordable. wareham massachusetts is lowkey the move though - you get cape cod feels but way cheaper prices since it's just before the bridges. they've got water parks and trails and the town is actually charming without being totally overrun.
rehoboth beach delaware might be the real steal though - no entrance fees, tax-free shopping, and they do free concerts all summer. honestly the most affordable beach towns on the east coast are just sitting there waiting if you know where to look. anyone else have a go-to budget beach spot that actually slaps?
