just realized there's actual money hiding in your coin jar and you probably don't even know it. like, i found out some of my old coins are worth way more than face value, which blew my mind honestly.
so i started looking into these AI apps that supposedly tell you if your change is actually valuable. turns out they're pretty legit? the whole idea is you just snap a photo and the app does the work for you instead of spending hours researching.
CoinSnap is probably the most straightforward one - you take a pic of both sides, it identifies the date and mint mark, then shows you what it's actually worth today. the app for coin value tracking also lets you catalog your whole collection if you're into that. kinda cool if you're trying to figure out if you're sitting on something special.
then there's Coinoscope, which works similarly but shows you a bunch of matching coins so you can compare and dig deeper if you want. you can even buy and sell through it if you get serious about collecting. honestly seems useful if you're not sure what you're looking at.
PCGS CoinFacts is the heavy hitter though - it's basically an encyclopedia. they've got data on over 40,000 coins, auction prices, condition ratings, all that stuff. if you're curious about a coin's history or want to know the actual market value, this is probably your best bet.
the crazy part? you can identify coins from the last 200 years just by taking a picture. way better than my old method of googling 'is this coin valuable' for 30 minutes.
anyone else have random valuable coins they didn't know about? feels like free money if you dig through your drawers lol
