Been doing some digging into the tech sector lately, and I think there's a solid case for why mutual fund technologies deserve more attention right now. The fundamentals look pretty strong - we're talking AI, wearables, cloud infrastructure, all the emerging tech that's driving real innovation.
If you're the type who can stomach some volatility and you've got a decent time horizon, tech-focused mutual funds might be worth a closer look. What's interesting is how the sector has evolved - it's not just about hardware and software anymore. Social media, internet companies, all of that falls under the tech umbrella now.
I've been tracking a few that caught my eye. Fidelity Select Tech Hardware has been solid with those three-year returns sitting around 32.7% - they're pretty selective about what they hold, focusing on companies with real fundamentals. They had about 26 positions last I checked, with meaningful exposure to names like Cisco.
Then there's Janus Henderson's global tech play, which takes a broader international approach. That one's been posting around 39% annualized returns over three years. The expense ratio is reasonable too at 0.72%. What I like about this approach is the exposure beyond just domestic markets.
DWS Science and Technology is another one worth considering - they're hitting close to 40% annualized returns over the same period. They're not shy about going into emerging markets either, and they'll even participate in IPOs when they see opportunities. Sebastian Werner's been managing this one since late 2017.
Obviously past performance doesn't guarantee future results, but these mutual fund technologies are positioned in sectors where there's genuine structural tailwinds. Innovation isn't slowing down anytime soon. If you're thinking about adding tech exposure to your portfolio, these are worth researching further. The key is making sure the risk profile matches your situation.
