Just been looking at the silver ETF landscape and wow, 2025 really changed things. Silver finally had its moment after years of playing second fiddle to gold. That new all-time high of $58.83 last year was wild, especially with all the trade tensions and uncertainty we've been dealing with. Now I'm seeing more investors asking about silver ETF options, particularly here in Canada.

If you're looking at exposure to silver itself rather than mining stocks, there are some solid choices. The Sprott Physical Silver Trust seems to be getting a lot of attention from Canadian investors - you're holding actual allocated silver bars in London vaults, which is pretty straightforward. The iShares Silver Trust is another popular pick if you want simplicity and size. Both give you direct silver price exposure without the hassle of storing physical metal yourself.

But here's what I've noticed - the mining side is where it gets interesting, especially for Canadian exposure. There's a reason so many silver mining companies are listed on the TSX. The Global X Silver Miners ETF pulls together a solid basket of these companies, so you get diversification across different producers and geographies. If you want smaller cap plays, the Amplify Junior Silver Miners ETF focuses specifically on the smaller players in the space.

The Sprott options keep popping up too. Their newer combo fund launched early 2025 mixes physical silver with mining stocks, which gives you a different angle. And if you're thinking beyond just silver, their gold and silver miners fund covers both precious metals in one holding.

Thing is, picking the best silver ETF really depends on what you're after. Direct silver exposure through trusts? Physical holdings through mining companies? Leveraged plays if you're actively trading? The expense ratios vary too, so that's worth factoring in. For Canadian investors specifically, having that TSX listing option on several of these is convenient. The whole sector feels like it's getting more accessible with all these different entry points now.
