Just went down a rabbit hole looking at the most expensive bags ever made and honestly, some of these are absolutely insane. Like, we're talking millions of dollars for something to carry your phone and keys.

I found out about this Elizabeth Taylor evening bag that sold for $218,500 at Christie's back in 2011. It was this woven gold clutch with actual diamonds spelling out letters. Apparently it was so stunning that it outpriced almost everything else in her entire auction.

But that's just the beginning. Chanel has this Diamond Forever bag that Karl Lagerfeld designed with 334 diamonds on the clasp alone. The thing sold for $261,000 at an AIDS benefit auction. And there's another Chanel flap clutch from 1989 that's just sitting on 1stDibs for $300,000 because apparently minimalist black lambskin is worth that much.

Hermès though... they're on another level entirely. Their Faubourg Birkin goes for around $400,000, and it literally looks like you're carrying a tiny replica of their storefront. But the real kicker? They collaborated with this Japanese jeweler Ginza Tanaka and made a Birkin with over 2,000 diamonds embedded in it. Price tag: $1.9 million. Like, that's not even a bag anymore, that's an investment portfolio you wear.

The most expensive bags in this category aren't just luxury items anymore—they're basically wearable art. Li Bingbing had a custom Lana Marks Cleopatra clutch made with her name in pink gold and pink diamonds for $400,000. Helen Mirren, Angelina Jolie, and Charlize Theron have all carried versions of this bag, but hers is obviously the most exclusive.

Not gonna lie, seeing these most expensive bags makes me wonder if I'm missing something about luxury or if people are just really committed to flex culture. Either way, the craftsmanship is undeniably insane.
