Just came across this interesting breakdown of the most affordable cities to live on the East Coast, and honestly some of these numbers are wild. Apparently Pennsylvania is dominating the cheapest cities list with places like Sharon running around 25k a year for cost of living. Georgia's got a ton of options too if you're looking to stretch your money further. The data they pulled looked at over 1,000 East Coast cities measuring everything from mortgage rates to livability scores. What caught my eye is that the biggest cities on the list are still pretty small - Columbus Georgia at around 204k people and Erie Pennsylvania under 100k. If you're trying to figure out where to actually afford rent and mortgages without bleeding money, Pennsylvania and Georgia seem to be where it's at. Some places like Meadville Pennsylvania and Erie are showing solid livability scores too, so it's not just about being cheap but actually being decent to live in. The median household incomes in these cheapest cities range pretty wide though, from mid-30k to 80k depending on location. Seems like if you're fed up with coastal inflation and looking to move somewhere reasonable, these East Coast towns might actually be worth checking out. Curious if anyone here has actually lived in any of these affordable spots.
