Just been looking at how some of the biggest companies out there are actually using artificial intelligence in ways that go way beyond the hype. Three companies using artificial intelligence really stand out to me right now.
First, Netflix has been quietly building AI into its core business for years. Most people know about the recommendation algorithm that decides what to watch, but what's more interesting lately is how they're using generative AI for actual production work. They're talking about using it to enhance visual effects - like making characters look younger in their newer releases. Plus they're experimenting with AI for ad targeting, which is becoming a real revenue stream for them. The company clearly has the tech infrastructure to stay ahead here.
Then there's Nike. Yeah, the stock got hammered recently, but the company still has massive resources. What caught my attention is their A.I.R. project that kicked off last year - Athlete Imagined Revolution. They're literally working with top athletes using generative AI to design futuristic footwear. It's a clever way to blend athlete input with AI capabilities to create something new. Nike has also embedded AI throughout operations, from inventory management to personalized shopping experiences. Companies using artificial intelligence this comprehensively don't usually stay stagnant for long.
Uber is the third one worth watching. Most people think of them as ride-sharing, but they've launched Uber AI Solutions as a standalone business targeting enterprise customers. They're offering AI and data tools to other businesses across different sectors. For their core operations, they're using AI for better driver-rider matching, dynamic pricing, and route optimization. The gig economy angle combined with an AI services play is interesting.
The pattern I'm noticing is that companies using artificial intelligence strategically - not just slapping AI labels on things - tend to be the ones actually moving the needle. These three are doing real work with the technology, not just talking about it. Worth paying attention to how this plays out.
