So Elon Musk actually corrected people on his ancestry a while back and it's kind of interesting. He posted that he's from British/English background, not Afrikaner like everyone assumed. The thing is, he drew a comparison to J.R.R. Tolkien who was also born in South Africa but had English parents. Apparently Musk is really into Tolkien's work too - like, he's cited it multiple times and it even came up when he was with Grimes. I didn't know Musk's ancestry got confused that much but I guess when you grow up in South Africa people just assume things about your background. The whole Afrikaner vs English settler thing is pretty different culturally - different languages, different history. Anyway, seems like Musk just wanted to set the record straight on where his family actually came from. Pretty random thing to clarify on Twitter but makes sense he'd want the facts out there about his actual ancestry.
