Been looking into where people are actually moving in Arizona without breaking the bank, and honestly some of these affordable cities to live in arizona are pretty solid. I came across some data showing the real cost breakdown for different towns, and it's interesting how much housing prices vary depending on where you settle.
Flowing Wells keeps popping up as the cheapest option overall - housing there is insanely low compared to the national average, like 66% cheaper. Most expenses stay below average except utilities. Then you've got places like Nogales and Douglas where housing is also ridiculously affordable, almost 48% below what you'd pay nationally. Both have solid transportation costs too.
If you're looking at mid-sized towns, Rio Rico and Eloy seem like reasonable picks for affordable cities to live in arizona. Rio Rico's got lower costs across the board except utilities, while Eloy is small but manageable if you don't mind paying a bit more for healthcare and utilities.
The interesting thing I noticed is that healthcare tends to be the wildcard in most of these places - sometimes it's way above average, sometimes it's reasonable. In San Luis and Kingman, healthcare costs are hitting 30-36% above national rates, which definitely eats into the savings you'd get from cheap housing.
Green Valley, Sierra Vista, and Drexel Heights are in that middle tier - all showing annual expenditures under $31k, which is pretty solid if you're trying to stretch your budget. Kingman and San Luis round out the list but still come in under $32k annually.
So yeah, if Arizona's on your radar for affordable cities to live in arizona, these towns are definitely worth researching. The cost breakdown really depends on what matters most to you - some prioritize housing, others worry more about utilities or healthcare. Might be worth digging into the specifics for whichever town appeals to you most.
