Just scrolled through some data on the richest people in the united states and honestly, the wealth concentration is wild. We're talking about a group of maybe 10 individuals who each control over $100 billion. That's not just money—that's geopolitical influence.

So here's what caught my eye. The usual suspects are all tech founders. Elon's sitting somewhere around $200 billion with his hands in Tesla and SpaceX. Bezos is basically tied with him, hovering around $195 billion from Amazon. What's interesting is how much of their wealth is tied to single companies or even single stock positions. That creates crazy volatility.

Zuckerberg's in the $180 billion range from Meta, which started as a college dorm project. Larry Ellison built Oracle, which most people have never heard of, but it's basically the infrastructure that runs half the internet. Warren Buffett took a different route—he's the investor type, using Berkshire Hathaway to own stakes in everything from insurance to ice cream shops.

Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer both made their fortunes from Microsoft. Gates basically created the PC era, while Ballmer took over as CEO during some rough years and somehow kept the ship steady. Now Ballmer owns the LA Clippers, which says something about post-tech wealth.

The Google guys—Larry Page and Sergey Brin—are both sitting around $110-114 billion. Their wealth is tied to search and all the data analytics that came with it. And then there's Jensen Huang from NVIDIA, who's become insanely wealthy relatively recently thanks to the AI boom driving demand for specialty chips.

What's wild is that basically all the richest people in the united states come from tech. Over the last 20 years, that's where the real wealth creation has happened. Real estate, traditional manufacturing, none of that compares to what tech founders have accumulated.

The thing that gets me is the market volatility. Some of these rankings shift depending on stock prices on any given day. Page could be worth $114 billion or $150 billion depending on how Google's trading. Huang and Brin swap positions regularly. It's a reminder that even at the absolute top of wealth, things aren't as stable as you'd think.

Makes you wonder what the next generation of richest people in the united states will look like. Will it still be tech, or is something else brewing?
