been trying out different portfolio analysis software for a while now and honestly, the options are kind of overwhelming. like, there's so many tools out there claiming to be the best, but they're really all built for different types of investors.
started with the free stuff because why not. empower (used to be personal capital) has this solid free dashboard where you can throw all your accounts together - credit cards, savings, investment accounts, whatever. their investment checkup tool is actually pretty useful if you want to see if your portfolio is actually diversified or if you're just throwing money at the same sectors. the fee analyzer is a nice touch too.
but if you've got serious money and a complicated portfolio with real estate, private equity, crypto, all that stuff, vyzer is a different beast. it's one of the few portfolio analysis software platforms that actually tracks both public and private investments in one place. the fact that it integrates crypto wallets and real estate syndications alongside your regular brokerage account is kind of wild. costs a flat monthly fee though, so keep that in mind.
for dividend tracking specifically, sharesight is honestly kind of obsessive about it in the best way. you can see exactly when your dividends hit, project future income, all of it. works with like 170+ brokers worldwide so the integration is pretty seamless.
stock rover is solid if you want deeper analysis - monte carlo simulations, correlation tools, all that nerdy stuff. lets you actually test different scenarios before making moves. their rebalancing tool tells you when your portfolio has drifted too far from your targets.
morningstar's instant x-ray is great for visualizing your actual asset allocation and sector weightings. sometimes you think you're diversified and then you run this and realize you're way overweight in one area.
if you want something locally housed (meaning it lives on your computer, not just cloud), stock market eye is the move. more hands-on setup but you're not relying on servers.
kubera is probably the most comprehensive if you're tracking international stuff - supports like 20,000+ institutions globally and handles everything from nfts to domain names. kind of overkill unless you actually need it though.
quicken premier has been around forever and it shows - tons of money management features beyond just portfolio tracking. the what-if scenarios are actually helpful for planning.
sigfig is good if you want the robo-advisor angle where it just handles rebalancing automatically. free for the first 10k then 0.25% fee.
and mint is more of a budgeting tool but honestly if you're not saving money in the first place, tracking your portfolio is kind of pointless anyway.
the real question is what actually matters to you. are you checking your portfolio daily or quarterly? do you have simple holdings or complicated stuff? how much are you willing to pay? honestly most of these portfolio analysis software tools do the job, just depends on your situation. i've got accounts spread across like five different places so consolidating everything in one tool made a huge difference in actually understanding what i'm doing.
