So I've been looking into allowance apps for kids lately because managing chores and money with multiple kids was literally just chaos with sticky notes everywhere. Turns out there's a ton of options now and they're actually pretty solid.
If you want something that connects to real bank accounts, FamZoo is probably the easiest to start with - works for any age and costs like $6 a month. I know people who swear by Greenlight though, especially if you want actual debit cards for your kids. The app lets you control everything - where they can spend, how much they get, all that. There's different pricing tiers depending on what features you want. Gohenry and Homey do similar things if you want to compare.
But honestly, not everyone wants to deal with actual banking. That's where apps like OurHome come in - totally free and just helps you organize chores and track who's done what. IAllowance is another one if you're on iOS and want something simple. S'moresUp is kind of wild because it does literally everything - chores, allowance, family calendar, messaging, all in one app. Cozi is similar but more focused on the organization side.
There's also RoosterMoney if you're in the UK, and Chores & Allowance Bot if you want crazy customization options.
Honestly the best allowance app for kids really depends on what your family needs. Some people just want to track chores, others want to teach money management with actual cards. I think the main thing is that it beats having a whiteboard on the fridge that nobody looks at. Plus kids actually engage more when it's on their phone.
The free ones are worth trying first if you're not sure. OurHome and the basic versions of others let you test it out before spending money. And yeah, it definitely keeps everyone on the same page better than the old system.
