Just been digging into what Cathie Wood's actually holding across her fund lineup, and there's some interesting patterns worth paying attention to if you're thinking about innovation-focused investments.
So Ark Invest runs nine different funds, but six of them are the actively managed ones where Wood's team handpicks positions instead of just tracking an index. That's the whole differentiator here - they're trying to beat benchmarks, not just mirror them.
The flagship Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) is sitting at around $6.3 billion in assets and has been churning out roughly 12% annualized returns since 2014. It's got this broad mandate to find the most innovative companies globally. Top positions right now include Tesla, Coinbase, Roku, Roblox, and Robinhood. Pretty tech-heavy, which makes sense.
Then there's the Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF) with about $1.1 billion, which is specifically fishing for opportunities in financial tech. Same cast of characters shows up here - Coinbase, Shopify, Robinhood are in the mix, plus Bitcoin and Block. You can see how Cathie Wood funds are really leaning into the crypto and blockchain narrative.
The Genomic Revolution ETF (ARKG) is another $1.1 billion fund focused on biotech companies benefiting from genomics breakthroughs. Holdings include Twist Bioscience, CRISPR Therapeutics, Recursion Pharmaceuticals - the usual biotech innovation plays.
Space Exploration & Innovation (ARKX) is smaller at $287 million but interesting if you're into frontier tech. You've got Rocket Lab, Kratos Defense, Iridium Communications in there. Niche but growing.
The Autonomous Tech & Robotics ETF (ARKQ) with $950 million is basically Cathie Wood funds' closest thing to an AI play. Lots of overlap with the main innovation fund - Tesla shows up again, plus Kratos, Teradyne, Archer Aviation.
Finally, the Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) at $1.8 billion is probably the most crypto-forward. Bitcoin is actually the single largest position, which tells you something about Wood's conviction on digital assets. Tesla, Roku, Coinbase, and Roblox round out the top five.
What's worth noting is that Wood's team trades pretty actively and reports holdings daily. These positions shift, but they represent her highest conviction bets across different innovation themes. If you're looking to understand where serious tech-focused capital is flowing, watching these funds is a decent proxy.
