Just looked at UiPath's chart and the story is pretty wild. This RPA software company went public at $56 back in 2021, and now it's sitting around $11. That's an 80% collapse. The question everyone's asking: is this a millionaire-making opportunity, or a value trap?
So what happened? UiPath builds software robots that automate repetitive business tasks - things like invoice processing, data entry, customer onboarding. They were genuinely growing fast for a while, hitting 24% revenue CAGR from fiscal 2021 to 2025. But here's where it gets interesting: growth just fell off a cliff. Last fiscal year, they only grew 9%. They blame macro conditions, but let's be real - generative AI platforms started doing a lot of what UiPath does, and that's a problem.
Looking ahead, analysts are modeling around 10% revenue growth through fiscal 2028, with profitability expected to kick in by fiscal 2026. That's not terrible, but it's not exactly millionaire-making territory either. The valuation is sitting at roughly 55x next year's earnings, which doesn't scream bargain when the growth is decelerating.
Here's the tension: UiPath is still the world's largest RPA player, and automation is obviously valuable. But the competitive landscape shifted. Companies are increasingly choosing generative AI solutions over traditional RPA, and that's a headwind that might not go away. Even if the stock bounces from these levels, it could struggle to get back to those IPO prices without a major strategic shift.
Worth watching? Sure. But I wouldn't be betting on this one to deliver the kind of returns that actually build millionaire portfolios. There are probably better opportunities elsewhere right now.
