Just came across some interesting research about where is the safest place to live in America if you're budget-conscious. Apparently there are solid options that don't force you to choose between safety and affordability - turns out Ohio dominates this list with 7 cities making the top 15.
The standouts are places like New Philadelphia and New Ulm with annual living costs under $37k and surprisingly low crime rates. You've probably never heard of most of these towns, but that's kind of the point - they're quieter, more affordable alternatives to the usual expensive metros. San Elizario, Texas is wild too, under $37k annually with almost zero violent crime.
What's wild is how much cheaper these places are compared to major cities. I was looking at the data and the safest place to live doesn't have to drain your wallet - some of these spots have home values around $180-220k with monthly mortgages under $1,400. If you're actually looking for where is the safest place to live without going broke, these smaller cities might be worth considering. The research covered crime stats from the FBI and census data, so it's pretty solid.
