Just realized how much I could save switching from my oven to an air fryer. Been looking at my electric bills lately and they're brutal, so I started digging into whether air fryers are actually more efficient than ovens like people claim.

Turns out they really are. My oven pulls between 2,500 to 5,000 watts when it's running, but those air fryers only use around 1,500 watts. That's roughly half the energy consumption. In terms of actual costs, a gas oven runs about 30-40 cents per hour, electric ones are 52 cents, but air fryers? Only around 25 cents an hour. When you're cooking regularly, that adds up fast.

The efficiency difference is pretty significant if you do the math. Average household electric bills are sitting around 147 bucks a month, so even small reductions matter. Plus air fryers heat up instantly while ovens need 10-15 minutes to preheat, which means less wasted energy just waiting around.

Cooking time is another thing - air fryers are way faster. Brussels sprouts take about 18 minutes in an air fryer versus 40 in a regular oven. That's not just about convenience, it's more energy saved each time you cook.

Obviously ovens win if you're baking multiple trays of cookies or roasting a whole turkey at once. But for everyday cooking, the efficiency advantage of air fryers over traditional ovens is legit. If you're trying to cut costs without sacrificing much, seems like a solid move.
