Just realized I might have actual money sitting in my wallet without knowing it. Been reading about how certain bills from different years are worth way more than face value to collectors. Like apparently some small face bills from specific series are legitimately sought after. Found out my old $2 bills could be worth something - especially if they're from the 1928 or 1953 series. The 1928 ones with red seals can go for anywhere from a few bucks to over $100 depending on condition. Even the 1995 $2 star notes (the ones with a star at the end of the serial number) can hit $500 uncirculated according to collectors. It's not just the $2 bills either. I checked some older $50 and $100 notes I have lying around. Apparently the 1934 series $50 bills in good condition sell for $65-$75, and certain $100 bills from 1966 with red seals can fetch $135-$169. The 1996 $100 star notes are worth $150-$350. What makes these small face bills and larger denominations valuable is basically the year they were printed, the condition, and whether they have those star serial numbers. Older series tend to be worth more. The rarity and historical angle really drives up collector interest. I'm actually going through my cash drawer now to see if I'm sitting on anything. Probably won't find treasure, but apparently it happens. Anyone else have old bills worth checking?
