Just found out my dog might have cherry eye and spent way too long researching this. Basically it's when a gland behind their third eyelid pops out and looks like a red bump in the corner of their eye. Kinda gross but apparently pretty common in younger dogs and certain breeds.
So here's the thing about cherry eye dog surgery cost—it's not cheap. You're looking at anywhere from $300 to $1,500 depending on a bunch of factors. Whether it's one eye or both, where you live, if you go to a specialist vs regular vet, and how big your dog is all matter. The surgery includes pre-exam, anesthesia, the procedure itself, and aftercare, but don't assume pain meds or blood work are included—always ask.
The annoying part is that it's not preventable, though some breeds are way more prone to it. And if you don't get it fixed, your dog will just keep rubbing at it, which can cause infections or corneal damage. Apparently surgery is the only permanent fix, not just drops or whatever.
Recovery's pretty standard—cone collar for a couple weeks, some swelling for about a week, should be fully healed in 10-14 days. If you can't afford it upfront, lots of vets do payment plans or you can look into CareCredit. Honestly, worth getting checked if your dog's breed is at risk for cherry eye dog surgery issues.
