just realized i have a bunch of old coins sitting in a drawer and honestly have no idea where the best place to sell my coins is. like do i go to some fancy auction house or just throw them on ebay? apparently there's a huge difference in what you'll actually get paid
so i've been looking into this and there's basically two routes - the professional auction places like Heritage or Stack's Bowers if you've got something actually rare, or just eBay if you want quick cash but maybe less money. the auction houses don't charge you upfront to look at your stuff which is cool, but they're super picky about what they take. Heritage literally sold 1.76 billion in collectibles last year so if they accept your coins you're probably getting top dollar
the tradeoff with eBay is you do all the work yourself - photos, listings, pricing - and there's so much competition that prices get weird. but you can have stuff live in hours and reach like 134 million buyers. there's also APMEX which is supposedly one of the biggest buyers of rare coins, they'll literally pay you within a day
my buddy mentioned going to a local coin dealer instead and honestly that might be the move. you get paid on the spot, they actually know what they're talking about, and you don't have to ship anything before getting paid. plus they apparently give decent rates to build relationships. so yeah if you're wondering where is the best place to sell my coins, might just be down the street
