I feel that AI has already been reducing the income of many manual laborers.
For example, I personally have saved over a thousand Australian dollars in labor costs this month alone, thanks to AI guidance.
These expenses were originally meant to be paid to the foreign workers who come to clean my pool and fix my coffee machine/grinder, but with ChatGPT and Claude guiding me step-by-step, I handled everything myself.
The pool at my house has always been a difficult problem because the trees planted by the neighbor's wall shed so many leaves.
It's no exaggeration to say that as long as I don't tend to it for more than a week, the pool starts to look bad.
If I’m away on a business trip for a month, the water can turn green or even brown.
I’ve tried covering it with plastic sheets and bought a pool cleaning robot, but if I’m not around for a long time, it still doesn’t work.
In the end, I can only call the foreign pool cleaners, charging around $500–800 for lighter cases, and $1500–2000 for serious water changes.
Whenever I ask them for a good solution, they always say there isn’t one, claiming it’s too complicated to handle.
If I don’t do it well, I have to have them come every 10 days for maintenance, which obviously costs money.
A couple of years ago, I also tried searching on YouTube and other sources, but every house is different, and trying to piece together scattered information takes too much time.
But this time, with an AI master guiding me, I don’t want to rely on him anymore.
Following ChatGPT’s advice, I tested the water’s pH, bought various chemicals, adjusted the water pump, and did everything myself.
How much to use, when to add it, how long to wait before the next step—if I didn’t understand, I asked immediately.
After a series of “Breaking Bad” operations, the stinky water in the pool turned crystal clear.
I took photos and sent them to the foreign workers, and they were stunned, thinking I hired someone else.
I told them AI taught me everything, and only then did they realize they probably can’t milk me anymore.
Of course, now I wouldn’t dare swim in a clear pool either—damn, all this tech and skill are what make it happen. 😂😂
Similarly, I only spent a few dozen Australian dollars on some small parts to fix my home coffee machine and grinder myself.
Based on Australian market prices, charging me $300–500 isn’t unreasonable.
AI might not be able to replace humans for physical labor yet, but it definitely breaks down many knowledge and skill barriers, making many one-trick artisans less indispensable.
That’s my recent feeling—times really are different now.
