Last night after a night run, I got itchy hands and wanted to swap some tokens on L2, but one transaction failed outright and I lost some fees... Basically, I was in too much of a rush. I set the slippage quite tight, the pool depth was average, and I even chose a busy time to jump in. When the transaction path lengthened, I started to drift, and then, bam, it got stuck.
Reflecting on it, I feel that the order placement rhythm is actually more important than I thought: don’t focus solely on the price at that moment, first check if the depth is sufficient. If not, split the order into several smaller ones and go slowly, or just wait. Recently, cross-chain bridges have been having issues, or oracles report outrageous prices, and everyone in the group is shouting “wait for confirmation.” I’ve also been somewhat educated... I’d rather be a beat late, at least I won’t get myself killed by rushing.
My mom even asked me: Isn’t swapping tokens on-chain just like placing an order on Taobao? I could only reply half-jokingly: Pretty much, but when there are a lot of people, the shipping fees suddenly become ridiculously expensive... Sigh, that’s all for now.
