A reporter learned from State Grid that the Anhui-Hubei power interconnection project officially started today (March 20) in Anqing City, Anhui Province. Once completed, it will become a flexible power interconnection hub between Anhui and Hubei. The Anhui-Hubei power interconnection project is the first DC project to start during China’s “Fifteen Five” period. With a total investment of approximately 4.58 billion yuan, the project will build a new ±260 kV flexible DC converter station with a rated capacity of 3 million kilowatts. After completion, the Anhui and Hubei power grids will achieve “barrier-free communication” through this converter station, so when one side faces tight electricity demand, the other side can quickly provide support via this channel, effectively enhancing the two provinces’ ability to complement each other’s peak loads and respond to emergencies, making power dispatch more flexible and reliable.
