Abstract generation in progress

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has attributed drivers’ overreliance on automated systems to two fatal 2024 crashes involving Ford’s BlueCruise system, where vehicles failed to stop for stationary objects. The NTSB highlighted issues with insufficient data recording, ineffective driver monitoring, and a lack of federal performance standards for Level 2 automation systems. Recommendations have been issued to the U.S. Department of Transportation, NHTSA, and Ford to implement stronger safety guidelines, improve crash data recording, and enhance driver monitoring and system configurations.
